RESUMO

The main objectives of this work were to assess the efficiency, ease-of-use, and general performance of a novel osseoshaping tool based on first-user clinical experiences and to compare these observations with preclinical data generated in rodents using a miniaturized version of the instrument. All patients selected for the surgery presented challenging clinical conditions in terms of the quality and/or quantity of the available bone. The presented data were collected during the implant placement of 15 implants in 7 patients, and included implant recipient site (bone quality and quantity) and ridge evaluation, intra-operative handling of the novel instrument, and the evaluation of subsequent implant insertion. The instrument was easy to handle and was applied without any complications during the surgical procedure. Its use obviated the need for multiple drills and enabled adequate insertion torque in all cases. This biologically driven innovation in implant site preparation shows improvements in preserving vital anatomical and cellular structures as well as simplifying the surgical protocol with excellent ease-of-use and handling properties.

RESUMO

The esthetic outcome of implant-supported restorations is affected by the implant position. A well-placed implant will allow appropriate contours of the restoration and together with an adequate volume of soft tissue will result in a functional and esthetic restoration. When a screw-retained restoration is anticipated, an implant that is angled too far facially would be esthetically unacceptable. In 2004, an abutment called the Dynamic Abutment (Talladium International Implantology) became commercially available. This abutment can allow a deviation of the restoration screw access angle to the implant angle of up to 28 degrees while allowing a screw-retained restoration to be connected directly to the platform of the implant. The purpose of this article was to describe the components, technique, and clinical use of this abutment.

RESUMO

This clinical report describes the 5-year follow-up treatment of an 11-year-old boy with ectodermal dysplasia. The dentition was initially restored with a combination of maxillary anterior-bonded composite restorations and a mandibular complete denture. This individualized approach allowed successful management of the patient.

(AU)

There is some controversy as to what is the best treatment option for the agenesis of upper lateral incisors. The issue is whether to replace the missing incisor–crown on a dental implant- or to close the space with orthodontic treatment. In order to make this decision we need to evaluate: (1) facial esthetics and smile, occlusion and function, periodontal support and dental stability. In addition, when there is crowding or a Class II one tends to close the space, and when there are diastemas or a Class III one favors to create space for a prosthetic replacement. The question arises when there are several possible alternatives (AU)
